Manual handling involves more than lifting heavy objects. Carrying, pushing, pulling and repetitive physical work also place demands on the body.

This online manual handling course helps you understand those demands and recognise common risk factors, with learning relevant to everyday activities and workplace training.

Who Is This Program For?

The program is designed for people whose work or everyday activities involve lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling or moving loads.  This is not unique to workplace manual handling only. We've helped a range of different industries, including early childcare, warehouse workers, as well as field staff who install gas and power.

It is relevant to physical tasks:

  • At work, including moving equipment or materials

  • At home

  • In the gym

  • When caring for others

Individuals can enrol directly, while organisations can arrange access for their employees.

Raymond Daniels, Master Osteopath at Better Bodies Osteo says

"In my experience, I have seen clients with back injuries from lifting with incorrect technique, as well as bending over and turning to put on socks, or pick up something light. It's not always heavy lifting that causes injury, it's everyday simple movement where the spine is put in a vulnerable position and gets injured. Examples of this have been lifting a baby, picking up socks, to even getting out of the car at the gas station and twisting, resulting in injury."

More Than Just a List of Lifting Rules

This program helps you understand your body, good lifting protocol, why manual handling injuries can happen, and why the way you move matters. It also helps you understand how to care for your spine for longevity, reducing the risk of future injury.

Clear explanations of anatomy and movement give context to the practical demonstrations, helping you connect the learning with real situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this manual handling training suitable for different types of workplaces?

Yes, we've helped organization with a wide range of job descriptions and requirements.

Is this program suitable for someone who already has pain or injury?

Yes, part of the program is about recovery and simple mobility drills to increase blood flow and circulation, to release tension and to improve posture.

Can the program be combined with a Better Bodies On-site Workshop?

Yes, the workshop is practical and engaging, working through a specific slide show, getting volunteers up and covering the content. Then the course covers content that is more individually tailored, rather than a group setting, which participants can go through in their own time.

What if our organisation has specific manual handling requirements?

Not all working environments are the same. Lifting a child from the ground is very different from unloading boxes overhead. If your organization has specific tasks and requirements, we would love to chat and see how we can help reduce the risk of injury specific to your industry.
